FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS WALKING FOOTBALL?

Walking Football is a game created by John Croot in 2011. It’s similar in some respects to Association Football and this is what makes it such a great sport. When playing Walking Football, all of the skills you have learned will come flooding back. Memories will come back too because the game is familiar. It’s the game you love and remember but played in a new way.

The biggest difference, as the name suggests, is there is no running. Walking football is played at walking pace, with players not allowed to run. This includes with the ball or off the ball, and includes jogging. You can ‘walk’ as fast as you want and walking as described in the rules is “one foot must be in contact with the ground at all times.”

One other big difference to association or 5-a-side football is that it’s classed as non-contact sport. Although tackling is allowed, this must be done with no contact.

HOW MANY PLAYERS ARE ON THE TEAM?

There can be between five and seven players on each team, depending on the tournament being played.

Teams can be men, women or mixed.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

Subs are collected to cover admin fees, court bookings, club kit, etc. They currently stand at £5 per person for each training session.

WHEN ARE TRAINING SESSIONS?

Summer practice sessions are held every Monday 7 – 8pm on the high quality 4G artificial flood lit football pitches at Rednock School in Dursley (GL11 4BY). In the winter, Monday practice moves indoors into the Rednock gym.

WHAT IS THE AGE LIMIT?

Walking Football is open to ladies and gents who are 50+ and with no upper age limit. If you still think you'll enjoy playing football then this is for you!

HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED?

WHAT DO I NEED TO WEAR IN ORDER TO TAKE PART?

Ideally some simple sports wear such as a top and either shorts or tracksuit bottoms or anything you feel comfortable in. Moulded stud football boots are recommended for use on the 4G surface but if you don't have any or are unsure what you need a pair of trainers will suffice to begin with. For your personal safety you will however need to wear shin pads/leg guards which, if you don’t have any, can initially be borrowed on the evening.
